Introducing the 27th annual Madison Young Playwrights Festival
This year marks our 27th season of creating original one-act plays with the students of our town through the annual Madison Young Playwrights Program (MYPP). The MYPP strives to share the creative work of our young playwrights with the larger community culminating in the Madison Festival, currently scheduled for March 2013. Additional details about the Festival will be forthcoming.
The MYPP is offered to students in grades 4-8. Students at all participating schools enjoy ten (10) weeks of playwriting with a professional theatre artist. Class time involves creative writing, improvisation and revision. After the ten-week program, certain plays will be selected for presentation during the Madison Festival, which involves the playwrights in the revision and rehearsal processes.
Students are also encouraged to enter their play into the NJ Young Playwrights Festival, a statewide competition organized by Playwrights Theatre. In past years, Madison students had their plays selected for this statewide honor. More information on the next Contest/Festival is available online at www.njypf.org.
Playwriting classes will be held at your child's school one day a week beginning in October and ending in December or January. Please note that classes are not held on holidays, or other vacation days. Schedules for each school are listed on the chart below.
