Grant Requests

Please note: A limited number of partial grants are available. Priority is given to schools who have not received a POL residency in the past and to those that can fully support a successful residency. Schools must fulfill specific grant requirements at the conclusion of the residency.

Dependent upon the number of applications received, NJPOL Partial Residency Grants will be awarded proportionally in each of the 3 POL regions.

To be considered for Partial Residency Grant towards a Full of Abbreviated POL Residency, you must answer the residency grant questions below.

We wish to be considered for a grant:

If your school receives a grant what, if any, amount of the total cost of the residency will the school be able to contribute?

Poetry Out Loud Application Questions - Answers Required for Grant Consideration

1. How do you expect your school will benefit from this program? Do you have any specific goals for this residency (i.e. fostering creativity, helping to prepare for standardized tests, etc.)?

2.  For seven days, participating classes are to receive 80-minute sessions with the teaching artists. Can your school commit to providing the artist with three, 80 minute sessions per day (Full Residency) or two, 80 minute sessions per day (Abbreviated Residency)? Please explain.

3. Classroom teachers must work in partnership with the artists on this program and commit class time in addition to the artist days in meeting the program goals. How can your teachers benefit from working in partnership with Playwrights Theatre's teaching artists? How will your school staff collaborate with the teaching artists to accomplish the goals of the residency?

4.  The program incorporates a series of competitions, classroom contests and a school-wide competition (must be administered by the school) to select the POL school representative. Is your school able to fulfill this program requirement? And is your school able to organize a field trip to the Regional and State Competitions to support its POL representative?

5.  How does the school intend to extend the impact of the program to the community?

6.  Please tell us anything else you think we should know about your students, school, or past residency experiences.
