All classes for young people are taught by Playwrights Theatre's exemplary team of teaching artists and educators who work with students to build their creativity, confidence and concentration.  Classes are held at 33 Green Village Road in Madison.  Click here for directions.  Each performance class culminates with a showcase of the student's work for family and friends.

Classes for Kids

 

Fall and Spring Semesters  
   (Grades pre-K through 6)

Each semester ends with a presentation of work for family friends.  

Students are encouraged to take a class multiple times as each semester will have a different focus and build new skills.

Cost of classes are $275 unless otherwise noted.  Discounts are available for returning students, students signing up for multiple classes and for siblings.

 

 

Creative Play   (grades pre-K and K)     REGISTER ONLINE
 
Fun drama exercises, storytelling and other activities use body, voice and imagination to develop students' creative expression.  Build self-esteem and communication skills.

Give your student an opportunity to build valuable public speaking and collaboration skills while participating in fun acting exercises and theatre games. Students will learn how to use their Actor's Tools---body, voice and imagination to express themselves and communicate an idea or story. Individual and group activities that include creating characters, dialogue and scenes encourage each child to be more creative and secure expressing his/her ideas. In a nurturing environment, students practice decision-making, problem solving, and strengthen their leadership and listening as they work together towards a common goal. The program will conclude with a presentation/sharing of some of the work generated during the program for family and friends.

Theatre games, pantomime and improvisation provide exciting means for learning basic performance skills in movement, voice and imagination.  An engaging and nurturing environment for children to create and express themselves.

Build skills in using the "actor's instruments" in an energized and encouraging environment  While exploring sound and movement through singing, dancing and acting, students learn about breathing, rhythm, projection and timing.

Learn the elements of acting on camera!  Students work on physical and vocal exercises to develop on-camera skills, as well as practice typical commercial and television techniques needed for further work on camera.

PERFORMANCE TROUPES
A comprehensive theatre program for the experienced student.


Working with other talented performers, students will build skills to prepare them for further work in the theatre, and have a chance to explore their own experiences and collaborate on a production to share their discoveries with an audience.  Their work will premiere on the Playwrights Theatre stage. 


Admission to these classes is by audition only.

We are looking for dedicated theatre students in grades 6-8!

Prior experience at Playwrights Theatre not necessary. We will consider applications from students with similar experience at other organizations.

Summer Theatre Camp 2008!

 

Four 2-week sessions for students ages 4 - 18.

Creative Arts Academy's Summer Theatre Camp is an opportunity for students at all levels of experience to bring their imaginations to life, while practicing basic performance and writing skills.  Students will work collaboratively with their peers, creating characters and telling stories while building the confidence needed to enjoy creative freedom.

"Total Involvement in the Theatre"

While focusing on the process of learning and creating art, students explore many aspects of theatre and develop skills in these art forms and for everyday life. Builds creativity, self-confidence, and teaches critical thinking and collaboration skills.  Students explore the art forms and learn how to weave the various elements together into an engaging, original performance piece presented to family and friends.

Students work with a team of artists and alternate daily through classes in:
